Welcome to ITS Polish Congress 2009

On May 26-27, 2009 2nd edition of the Polish ITS Congress (Intelligent Transport Systems) named “Intelligent Transport – Vision and Reality” took place in Warsaw at the Novotel Centrum Hotel.
One of the main objectives of the 2nd Polish ITS Congress was to have an open discussion on key problems of Poland’s emerging new market of the use of IT technology in transport systems, as well as on creating a modern, safe, effective and environment-friendly transport system in Poland. The discussion included industry experts as well as representatives of the Parliament and the Polish government. Interesting and up-to-date themes discussed at the Congress, selection of ambitious topics and outstanding speakers – all have attracted nearly 180 participants. The Congress brought together people connected with science, industry, central and local government organizations. The participants had the chance to meet renowned experts and representatives of leading companies offering specialized ITS services. The list of participants is included in Appendix 1.
The high level of the program was guaranteed by the Program Council headed by professor Wojciech Suchorzewski. Some 45 speakers representing highly positioned companies, including foreign guests, shared their knowledge with the audience. Topics discussed at the Congress included: ITS in State and UE Transport Policy, ITS Architecture and Standards, Role of ITS in Transport Safety Improvement, Role of ITS in Environmental Protection, ITS in Traffic and Public Transport Management, electronic toll collection, implementation problems of ITS systems in Poland.

This important international event was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Union of Polish Metropolitan Cities, Chairman of the Infrastructure Commission at the Polish Parliament, Mayor of City of Warsaw, National Roads and Highways Management, Polish Academy of Sciences, Police Headquarters, Polish Road Congress. The Congress theme partner was the Polish Transport Telematics Association. The 2nd Polish ITS Congress 2009 was covered by such TV stations as TVP Info, TVN Turbo, the Western Pomerania Regional TV and TV Business.
Nearly 200 sets of Congress promotional materials had been printed and distributed, including Congress brochure and a CD with Congress speeches, as well as promotional materials of sponsors and partners.
The organizer posted logos of the Congress partners and sponsors on www.pkits.pl and entries on the Congress dedicated website. They were also given exposure in the form of promotional banners and tables and collateral materials.
IBM Polska was the platinum sponsor of the Congress. The company sponsored the evening reception for the participants at the National Museum in Warsaw. The evening at the National Museum was co-sponsored by GMV company (Gold Special Sponsor). Diamond sponsors were: Egis (sponsor of lunch on day 1) and kapsch TrafficCom AG (sponsor of lunch on day 2). DHV Polska, Road Transport Institute, PTV AG, Satellic Traffic Management were the gold sponsors hosting coffee breaks on both days of the Congress. Silver sponsors: ADT Fire & Security, Transport Engineering Bureau – Design Offices Sp. J., Biprogeo Projekt, Esri Polska, Neurosoft, Siemens andP.H.U. TELSAT.
The organizers were satisfied with the turnout at the Congress and high number of www.pkits.pl hits. Participants gave the Congress high grade and over 90% of respondents wanted to take part in the next Congress edition.
The two previous editions of the Polish ITS Congress were organized by the ITS Polska Association, member of ITS Europe – ERTICO.
