Report on the 3rd Polish ITS Congress
„Little Money – Big Benefits. ITS as a Solution to the Crisis”
Warsaw, May 19-20, 2010
On May 19-20, 2010 the 3rd Polish Intelligent Transport Systems Congress took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Warsaw. The Polish ITS Congress has become an annual event in Poland’s transport sector. Each subsequent edition draws attention of foreign observers and participants, who perceive it as an opportunity to promote their achievements.
This year’s Congress motto was „Little Money – Big Benefits. ITS as a Solution to the Crisis”. It is a response to the global economic slowdown. Organizers of the 3rd Polish ITS Congress put particular emphasis on implementation issues and financing of advanced technological and organizational solutions. Broad implementation of these solutions will allow for achieving goals concerning transport quality and effectiveness at a lower cost. Interesting topics that were discussed at the Congress allowed for detailed analysis and interesting discussions concerning, among others, transport policy and ITS financing, electronic toll collection, urban mobility, ITS systems for cities and traffic management systems.
This year’s Congress took place under the patronage of leading institutions involved in developing and implementing advanced technology in the transport sector. Among them were: Ministry of Infrastructure, Parliamentary Infrastructure Commission, Mayor of Warsaw, General Management of Domestic Roads and Highways, Polish Academy of Sciences Transport Committee, Police Headquarters, Border Patrol Headquarters, Union of Polish Metropolises and Association of Polish Counties. Also, association of ITS Europe (ERTICO) has extended its patronage.
The platinum sponsor of the Congress was Egis company which sponsored the evening gala reception for participants, which took place at the Technology Museum in Warsaw. Diamond sponsors were: IBM (lunch sponsor on day 2) and Kapsch Trafficom AG (lunch sponsor on day 1). Road Transport Institute, PTV AG, Satellic Traffic Management and Alcatel Lucent were the gold sponsors financing coffee breaks over the two days of the Congress. Silver sponsors were Neurosoft, Siemens, Stalexport Autostrady, P.H.U. TELSAT, ACS, Xerox. Partners for the Congress were: Polish Association of Transport Telematics and Deloitte, and the sponsor of the session was the Italian Institute of Foreign Trade together with Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico, ICE, Liguria Region, Consorzio Odisseus and Liguria International.

About 200 sets of Congress materials had been printed and distributed and included a Congress brochure and promotional materials of sponsors and partners. Logos of sponsors and partners were posted on www.pkits.pl. They also got additional exposure in the form of company banners and promotional tables, and their promotional materials had been inserted in the participants’ Congress folders.

The organizer of the three Polish editions of the Polish ITS Congress was the ITS POLSKA Association, member of ITS Europe – ERTICO. Organizational partner of the Congress was an expert firm Opensky Systems and Services, and Congress organizational services were provided by the “Meetings Management” Office of Conferences and Business Tourism Consultants.
During the evening reception at the Museum of Technology in Warsaw, LIDER ITS 2010 awards ceremony took place. The event was organized by ITS POLSKA Association and the “ITS Review” magazine. It was was held under the honorary patronage of Ministry of Infrastructure, and award recipients were selected by a jury, headed by prof. Wojciech Suchorzewski. The awards were handed to the winners by: Wydawnictwo Komunikacji i Łączności Publishing House, Office of Roads and Urban Transport of the City of Warsaw, ITS Netherlands and Sanef company. The winners of the first edition of the contest were, among others, BENSON CONSULTANTS Sp. z o.o., NEUROSOFT, City of Zielona Góra and City of Kraków.
